Dekula Band • Live at Stampen • 11 June • 20:00
Stampen proudly presents Dekula Band!
Vumbi, now based in Sweden, was born in the Kivu province of northeastern Congo and began playing guitar at an early age. Inspired by the great Congolese guitarists Dr Nico and Franco, he learned the rhythms and styles of Rumba and Soukous by listening to the radio.
In the early 1980s, Vumbi moved to Tanzania, where he became lead guitarist for the legendary Orchestra Maquis and toured extensively throughout East Africa. In the early 1990s, he settled in Sweden and performed with several groups, including Makonde Band and Ahmadu Jarr’s Highlife Orchestra.
In 2008, he formed Dekula Band, dedicated to the music he loves most – Congolese Rumba and Soukous. Since then, the band has performed at venues and festivals including Stockholm Jazz Festival, Face Z in Geneva, and numerous stages across Europe.
Live from 20:00
